Benefits of Combining Abdominoplasty with Hernia Surgery

Introduction
Pregnancy can leave women with hernias because of the breaking down and weakening of the abdominal wall. During pregnancy, the baby exerts increased intra-abdominal pressure that can test the strength and integrity of the abdominal wall.
Such hernias aren’t always painful and are characterized by a lump above or within the belly button. You may not like the way your belly button looks. You may have what we call an “outie” which is really an umbilical hernia. This can be fixed and your belly button will be converted from an “outie” to a “innie.” You might think correction of the condition as unnecessary if it isn’t causing you pain. However, besides dealing with postpartum hernia symptoms, leaving the hernia untreated can mean content might get trapped in it. If that happens, the results could be life-threatening.
However, it isn’t all bad news. Therefore, stop putting all your faith in treating and healing your umbilical hernia and diastasis repair in after pregnancy exercises. You need to look for other options as well. Surgery can help. After all, with a good surgical team in your corner, you can turn things around!
Make the Post-Pregnancy Hernia Surgery Work in your Favor
Luckily, even a post-pregnancy hernia surgery can be made to work in your favor! When undergoing hernia repair, you can also have the hanging lower abdominal skin and fat removed and tucked in. If you require correction of diastasis recti – which is a pure separation of the abdominal muscles – that is possible too. It can be done simultaneously while you are already anesthetized. The combination of the diastasis repair and removal of the excess skin of your lower abdomen is called a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. Other benefits of combining the two surgeries i.e. abdominoplasty and hernia repair include:
  1. You save on time and money since a medically necessary procedure is being combined with an elective procedure and both are taken care of for you at the same time.
  2. The surgery will reduce the chance of repeat hernias.
  3. Combining the two surgeries would mean you won’t be lengthening your recovery period.
  4. Since abdominoplasty by itself is considered a cosmetic procedure done for aesthetic reasons, your insurance company will not cover its cost. However, combined with a hernia repair, which is considered medically necessary, you could still end up saving money when your insurance company covers the fees for the anesthesiologist and surgery center.
  5. You will be able to enjoy the best of both worlds i.e. the benefits associated with a typical abdominoplasty include removal of up to 10 pounds of stomach fat!
  6. Your “outie” umbilicus/belly button will be converted to a “innie.”
In the hands of an expert surgeon, combined surgery can be pulled off without a hitch. Get in touch with Norman B. Day, M.D., F. A. C. S. at the Day Plastic Surgery today! Torn Ear Lobe Repair Surgery

Ear piercing is a common practice in many countries and different cultures. The ear lobes are one of the most delicate, dainty, and beautiful parts of the human face. The ear lobescan lightens up our facial beauty with just a simple pair of stud earrings.
However, our ear lobes are also very sensitive as they can easily tear or bruise if they frequently bear heavy earrings or experience other trauma. There are many reasons why people may get a torn ear lobe. It always starts with a widening hole in the ear lobe, and if not treated in time, turns into a full split. It is important to seek ear lobe surgery to protect your delicate earlobes from further damage.

Who Should Consider Torn Ear Lobe Surgery?
Mothers of young children can easily develop a torn ear lobe if they tend to wear dangling ear jewelry. Children are quick to snatch and pull at jewels that draw their attention. There could be many other reasons, like wearing heavy earrings or a deformity, which cause your ear to split.
Your ear holes can also enlarge over time. If you’re not satisfied with how your ear lobes appear, then surgery is a safe and effective option.

The Procedure
The medical process is painless, simple, and quick. The surgical area is thoroughly sterilized and cleansed using a strong anti-microbial solution, after which local anesthesia is applied. The skin cleft is carefully removed, and then the affected lobule is divided into four parts.
The lobule is then rebuilt all over again using extremely fine and intricate stitches at the back and front of the ear lobe. After the procedure, the sutures are removed in two stages over week-long intervals. By doing so, the ear lobe will be able to pick up strength quickly and regain its original appearance. Although there is minimal discomfort, there are certain post-op precautions that should be kept in mind.

Post-Op Precautions
An expert surgeon will recommend avoiding any kind of piercing on the area for at least 6 months to a year. Ear lobe repair can take time, and the affected area should be left untouched. Now that the native tissue has been replaced by surgery, the new scar can tear and bruise easily.
Therefore, the person shouldn’t wear heavy, dangling earrings for a few months to allow proper healing. Some patients may also have cysts and keloids from previous piercings. These can be professionally removed during the ear lobe surgery. Patients with keloids should practice special precaution and not get a piercing on the same area.

The Final Take Away
Ear lobe surgery is extremely safe and painless with a short surgical recovery period. If you’re considering ear lobe repair, choose the best expert who can perform the surgery without any issues. Moles, Lipomas and Cysts - What are the differences?

As we age, our skin can lose its youthful radiance and develop problems of its own.  From discrete areas of pigmentation on our face to bumpy growths, moles, lipomas and cysts, these are the most benign looking skin conditions. All of these can become troublesome later on and should be treated earlier rather than later. Waiting to treat any of these just makes the problem larger and the scars longer as well.
A sudden change in size, texture, or pain can be of concern for cancerous growth. Removal of all of these growth benign and cancerous/malignant is covered by insurance in the United States. Again it is better to biopsy or remove these lesions than to observe them.
Here is all you need to know about moles, cysts and lipomas and decide whether your condition needs a removal surgery.

Moles/pigmented skin lesions

Moles/pigmented skin lesions come in various shapes, colors, sizes and skin depths. They can be round or irregular, brown or other colors, bumpy or flat on the skin, in the superficial layer of skin or inner dermal layer of skin.  They can appear anywhere on the body, and their appearance is intensified by unprotected exposure to the sun.
They are susceptible to turning into cancerous growths, and hence, a slow change in their appearance must not be ignored. A change in color, size, bleeding and areas that do not heal suggest that there is more than a benign process going on and they must be excised or biopsied.
However, studies show that patients usually ignore the gradual change in the appearance of moles which can delay timely treatment. All changes suggest that the mole is evolving and removal procedure is recommended. This kind of procedure is normally covered under insurance.

Soft tissue growths-

Lipomas

Lipomas are one of the soft tissue growths that develop underneath the skin. Their cause is probably because of a person’s genetics.  They are  bulges of varying sizes and only grow with time. They are made of fatty tissue under the skin, they are usually soft and appear to move. They can however be deep or in multiple layers or in the muscle as well. A sudden growth in these lesions or pain is troublesome and may signify a cancerous growth. The forehead and scalp make a type of lipoma that is very deep and these should also be removed. Inexperienced surgeons often remove the incorrect lesion in these areas. These lipomas should not return if they are totally and properly removed.
All of these growths should have proper testing with pathology to determine what they are exactly. The likelihood of malignancy is very unlikely and less than 1%.  Lesions that grow suddenly, are very large, or become painful can grow into cancerous growths called liposarcoma. Hence, a timely removal procedure may also be a preventive measure to ensure that a lipoma doesn’t lead to unwanted consequences later on in life.

Cysts

Cysts are derived and develop from the skin. These are harmless keratin-filled bulbous lumps that can appear anywhere. People who have skin conditions such as sebaceous acne, or who are prone to black heads and pimples are susceptible to develop these cysts. Although genetics mostly determine your skin condition and susceptibility to developing cysts, some can be formed by injury, or when sweat ducts are blocked. Diet also plays a considerable role in skin condition and cyst formation.
Cysts always need to be treated and removed. They will never go away with out treatment. They will always enlarge with time and will always eventually get infected if they are not removed. If the area of enlargement becomes red, tender and painful and or also starts to drain this is usually an infected cyst that needs to be excised or drained as soon as possible. A plastic surgeon who can remove the cyst and reconstruct the area is best equipped to treat these. Another option rather than excision is to first drain these cysts of the infection. This can give temporary relief but the cyst is guaranteed to reappear unless the full cyst including all of the sac is removed. When these cysts are treated while they are infected they can be more difficult to remove completely and leaving only minute cells behind can cause the cyst to reform. Therefore it is best to treat them when and before they become infected. If you have reappearing cysts, complete surgical removal is your best bet for permanent results.

Conclusion

If your skin is suffering from any of the above conditions, then getting in touch with a trusted name in the industry will provide you with spectacular results. Contact Dr. Norman Bakshandeh at Day Plastic Surgery for the best in removal surgery. Dr. Norman’s work is bound to leave you satisfied.

COVID-19 Update From Dr. Norman Bakshandeh Day

I hope that you and your families are all doing well during this extremely difficult time. I am thinking of you and want you to know that your health and welfare is always my number one priority.
Please know that we are taking all steps necessary for increased sanitization in my offices to ensure your safety. For now, the office is open but with limited office hours. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me or email me at Normanbdaymd@gmail.com.
As you are, we are taking this day by day and following the CDC guidelines. Please feel free to call my Brooklyn or Manhattan office if you would like further information about the office hours or any plastic surgery inquiries. I would be more than happy to speak with you.
While I would love to see you in my office, I know that this is a time where we need to stay in as much as possible. It is my greatest hope that we will all be healthy, stronger and able to resume our normal lives in the very near future. In the meantime, please stay safe and practice all of the good hygiene measures that we are being instructed to do. As this is such a stressful time, I hope that you can find some solace in an area that gives you some peace such as meditation, getting some fresh air and enjoying some family bonding time (even though I know that is sometimes a challenge!).
On a personal note, I was quite shocked last night when my son (who is reluctantly home for the year from college) asked me to show him how I bake the white chocolate chip cranberry oatmeal cookies that I regularly send him to school. It was a bit messy, but we had a good time and for a brief moment – things seemed strangely normal. Please take good care, keep in touch and I look forward to seeing you soon.
